Terms such as "regenerative economy", "bio-economy" or "indigenous knowledge" are fine formulations that are now often used in international sustainability contexts such as in UN summits and in the EU. But what do these terms mean in practice, on the ground, in the (rain) forest, for food production among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon? 

How to bring about a regenerative economy where it is really needed; such as in indigenous peoples in the Ecuadorian Amazon who have traditionally lived without money. Many increasingly see themselves having to sell the forest to get education for their children or to ensure health care for the village. More people are now falling ill from bad water, as the rivers are polluted from extractive industry far upstream. Other challenges include women who do not receive education or healthcare when they are about to give birth, and climate change which causes the forest to begin to lose its natural rain cycles and seasons.
